After two months of concentrated school work, the girls got a much-needed break this week.  They joined their dear Uncle Bob, with his wife Andrea, their 3 children, and Andrea’s parents, for 5 days at Disney World.  To read about their trips, see their individual pages.  Pictures from their trip will be on Krystiana’s page, as she is the owner of the camera.

While they were gone, Dave and I had a sort of “second honeymoon.”  We went on a few dates, took a few walks into town, played a game, and just enjoyed each other’s company.  He also did his normal work of course, but I took a “break” from the routine and painted a few walls in our home.  Now I am inspired, and am seeing every wall in a bright, bold color.  Our laundry closet is now a lovely shade of…black.

We are glad to have the girls back with us, but very grateful for the time they had with family on their “big adventure.”

Winter has arrived.  I’m thankful for a warm house to sleep in on this cold, windy night.

The autumn’s highlights included a more intense homeschool co-op on Fridays for me and the girls, a first-ever Colts game for Eliza, a Speech class for Krystiana, holidays spent with friends, and recently a post-Christmas visit from my brother Jim (and Tim and Merrill and Patterson.)  Dave has decided to further his education, and pursue a Master’s Degree from a Divinity School in Chicago.  I have decided to hone my language skills by reading more in French, German, Spanish and Polish.

We all have goals for this year.  I’d like to become more computer saavy.  Krsytiana wants to make a quilt.  Eliza wants to learn to make a lasagna.  Dave wants to do well in his classes.  And we’d all like to continue to grow in the love of Jesus, and not let our hearts grow cold….brrrr.

Summer is almost over, but we have some sweet memories to savor.  In July we went to Massachusetts for a family wedding.  Ginger’s cousins Scott & Beth Ross put on an amazing wedding bash for their eldest daughter Dana.  It was beautiful, and the highlight for me (besides Dana’s dancing) was seeing family I hadn’t seen in many years. It was a rare treat to see Dad with his brother J.P. and sister Nancy.  We had a family reunion on Sunday after the wedding at Carolyn’s house with just immediate family.  It was the first time we’d all been together in four years, so that was a rare treat as well.

For the month of August we had a 14-year old French girl, Jade, stay with us.  She is from Nice.  We practiced our French, and helped her with English.  The girls and she rode bikes, roller-bladed, played games, watched movies, and swam a lot.  We showed her around Indianapolis, and took her to Chicago for a day.  It was fun to have her, and we are glad to now have a friendship with her and her parents.  We hope to stay in touch with them for many years.

So it’s good-bye to summer, and welcome fall – my favorite time of year.
